About Me

¡Saludos!

I received my master’s of library science from Texas Woman’s University December 2021. Prior to earning my degree I worked five years in the youth services department as a youth paraprofessional. Eventually, I’d like to return as a public library youth services librarian, but for now, I write this blog mostly for the modern bilingual parent.

We are the ones struggling to teach our children a second language and finding few solid resources to help. We are a growing demographic, determined to raise bilingual children despite the odds! My blog is named after my two children, Yago y Mila.

My blog is geared at Spanish/English speaking families. Born and raised in Guanajuato, Mexico for the first seven years of my life, I consider myself an “Americanized Mexican.” I have always loved reading and language (I took German in high school and community college), but Spanish is the language in which I love and pray. I attended bilingual class from 2nd-5th grade. In Junior and High school, I often translated for incoming classmates. In college, I majored in English and minored in Spanish (University of Houston). Today, I speak predominantly in Spanish to my children.

I will always send you to the public library. This institution is often overseen, or downright ignored, when it comes to resources. The more use and demand for the library, the longer it will thrive as a social institution. It is one of the few places you can “shop” even if you forget your wallet (as it often happens to me)!
