Pura Belpré Award List
Curated by the American Library Association (ALA), an annual award to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work celebrates the Latinx culture.
Tomás River Mexican American Children’s Book Award
Granted by Texas State University this award features winners each year for young, middle grade, & older readers.
Batchelder Book Award
Presented by the ALA to publishers of international children’s books translatead into English. I love this award because it keeps our horizons as bilingual readers wide.
Libraries
Library catalogs are not the most intuitive! I am however listing them as resources for you to visit locally or contact if you are a librarian seeking to speak to staff who are more experienced working with the Hispanic/ Latino community.

Fort Bend County Libraries Most branches of the FBCL have decent Spanish collections with new titles added regularly. University Branch & Missouri City Branch have solid collections. You can browse the Spanish children’s collection online by clicking on the subject line “Spanish language materials — Bilingual — Juvenile fiction”.
Pasadena Public Library
The Pasadena Central Library has an extensive & one of the best Spanish Children’s & Adult Collections in the area. Staff have trained in Spain to curate their collection.
Mid Columbia Libraries
Great online source with organized lists of titles in Spanish, featuring new releases/purchases. Covers included.
Houston Public Library
HPL has an extensive history guides to Hispanic & Latino life in Texas. They also have a collection of oral history & memory projects in their archives.
Austin Public Library
One of the few public libaries with a Spanish website. Features their newest in the Spanish language adult collection.
